The graduate program of our department remains the only one in Taiwan that offers an integrated program covering both sociology and psychology. With the common ground of the two disciplines standing in social psychology, we offer a unique approach for the two disciplines to compensate each other, while providing a context for a continuous dialogue between sociology and psychology.
The department has been holding a series of conferences under the title: “Dialogues between Sociology and Psychology” since 2003. This is a biannual activity that provides not only the opportunity for faculty members to interact with other colleagues in the academic field, but also a formal occasion for students to experience scholarly presentations and discussions. All students are welcomed, while graduate students are especially encouraged to participate in the conference.
As the development of society reaches an ever more heterogeneous stage, the complexity of human minds gains excessive possibilities still. To explore humanity from both sociological and psychological approaches, is to acquire both the critical view of sociological imagination and the delicate analysis of psychological understanding in a well integrated course structure. This integrated and continuous discourse of the two disciplines provided by our program will, hopefully, enhance and enrich the minds and abilities of our students, so as to withstand the ever changing and ever expanding pluralistic world of our era. |
