Since the founding of Shih Hsin University , instruction in journalism and mass communications has been an important part of its educational mission. When the school was a news media vocational school, the journalism and mass communications departments were already well established, and had an excellent reputation for educating media professionals. The College currently offers programs leading to the BA, MA, MFA, and Ph.D degrees.
The College of Journalism and Communications is made up of eight different departments and one independent graduate school: the Graduate Institute of Communications, the Department of Journalism, the Department of Radio, Television and Film, the Department of Public Relations and Advertising, the Department of Graphic Communications and Publishing, the Department of Speech Communications, the Department of Information and Communications, the Department of Communications Management and the Department of Digital Multimedia Arts . The College offers the most comprehensive and in-depth programs in professional training and theoretical construction available in Taiwan , as well as being the largest institution of its type.
The College has always adhered to an educational approach of putting equal weight on both theory and practice as reflected in the composition of the faculty and in the diverse internship programs. In addition, the College often invites leading media professionals to present lectures and lead seminars. Students are expected to graduate with strong academic preparations and technical training to pursue careers in media studies or professional practice.
Students have plenty of opportunities for real-life training both on and off-campus. For example, the Taiwan Lih-Pao Daily, Pots Weekly , the Shih Hsin Radio Station, the Shih Hsin TV Station, and the Institute for Public Opinion Research all give students the chance to round out their classroom education with hands-on experience. |
